History and Structure

The APMRN was established in 1995 as a research project of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme of UNESCO.

The APMRN is a collaborative organisation of researchers and scholars interested in all aspects of migration. Each regional network of the APMRN is autonomous and there are regional coordinators in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the Pacific Islands (based in Fiji), The Republic of China (Taiwan -unofficial member), Thailand and Vietnam.

The current Chair of the APMRN is Professor Paul Spoonley of Massey University, New Zealand.

The APMRN Secretariat is located at the Demography and Sociology Program, Australian National University. The Secretariat Director is Dr Robyn Iredale.
